Reading Proficiency is a Civil Right

I have a strong belief that every child can learn.

I also have a profound respect for not only who children are, but who they will become.

When my district offered me a chance to take an Orton Gillingham workshop, I jumped at the chance and was amazed at what I learned in just 3 days. That year, our district also implemented a program called Brain Friendly Reading. My knowledge of teaching reading and writing was growing so much that when the State of Michigan offered me LETRS training at no cost, I was thankful for the opportunity. LETRS is a 2 year training, in which, I am only 6 months away from completion!

Coupled with years spent working in urban environments though my undergraduate work at Oakland University and my time as a GSRP teacher I also became to understand the importance of how trauma impacts all of our children. I have taught students as young as toddlers and as old as Seniors. I feel honored to have worked with the children and families that I have. I have grown and learned right along side of them.
